Once we come out of our mother’s womb we are officially human. We are socialized instantly. The womb will be the last place where we are truly free of the labels and social categories that we will wear for the rest of our lives. Just as we enter into time and space i.e., I was born at 2:00 am at Fox Hospital in Oneonta, NY during the 3rd day of June in 1981, we also enter into pre- established social categories. In my case some of these labels included the cultural inventions known as male, American, white, and Christian. For many of us, by the time we become aware of this forced acculturation, we have already morphed into these labels and there is no turning back.
